Rudolph "Rudi" Milasich
My name is Rudolph Milasich, "Rudi", and I am asking for your vote in the August primary to become the Democratic Party candidate for County Commissioner in District 5 (Onekama, Onekama Township south of 8 Mile, and Manistee Township except for East Lake).
Although growing up in a working class family in the Chicago area, I was very fortunate that, starting in the late 40's, my family vacations have been spent in Onekama at a cottage on Lake Michigan. My father worked at the Ford Stamping Plant in Chicago Heights and was President of UAW Local 588.
Turning down a Ford Motor Company scholarship, I decided to serve my County by accepting an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. After graduation from Annapolis, I entered the Navy Nuclear Power Program and went to Sea on a Fleet Ballistic Missile submarine until leaving the Navy in 1969.
I graduated from Law School at Harvard in 1972 and achieved my dream of providing legal services to workers by joining the Legal Department of the United Steelworkers in Pittsburgh where I practiced labor law for 31 years.
During those years, my wife and two children continued to vacation in Onekama at what became my family's cottage, and after my wife died, I retired here, buying a home in the Village in 2003 and becoming a resident two years ago.
I am running for County Commissioner to continue the privilege of a lifetime of service to people.
It is my belief that the purpose of Government, at every level, is simply to make available to people the services essential to providing them and their family members with the opportunity to succeed in life.
If elected, I will work hard to attract new Green jobs to the County and to ensure that our main asset, the Outdoors, is protected. For example, a county-wide recycling program is essential to reduce the amount of buried waste.
I cannot promise you that I know the answers to all our problems, but I do promise you that if you vote for me, I will work hard to find solutions.
